Introduction to Lymphedema
This course will provide foundational information regarding the structure and function of the lymphatic system, pathological processes associated with the lymphatic system, and classification/description of the stages of lymphedema
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the structure and function of the lymphatic system
- Describe the anatomical routes of lymphatic drainage
- Differentiate between the stages and classification of lymphedema, including primary and secondary forms
- Explain the physiological principles underlying lymphatic transport and their relevance to the development of lymphedema
- Identify common causes of dynamic, mechanical and combined lymphatic insufficiencies
- Demonstrate knowledge of treatment approaches for lymphedema
